Stan Winston - RIP

Oscar-winning special-effects wizard Stan Winston passed away yesterday after a seven year battle with cancer. Mr. Winston was just 62 years old.

Over the course of his career Stan Winston worked with most of the big names in Hollywood… everyone from Arnold Schwarzenegger to Steven Spielberg. He won four Oscars [for his work on “Aliens”, “Terminator 2”, “Jurassic Park” and “Batman Returns”] and was considered by many to be the best special effects artist in the business. In addition to his Oscar winning film appearances, Stan Winston’s work could also be seen in “Edward Scissorhands”, “Predator”, “A.I.”, “Big Fish”, “Iron Man”, and so many other fan favorite movies.

Stan Winston is survived by his wife, Karen; a son, daughter, brother and four grandchildren. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and fans.

Oh for crying out loud. This sucks. Stan Winston was such an awesome guy. He was a huge part of what made some of the best films ever so good. I was hoping that one day I could make a movie and he would work in the creature fx department.

Stan Winston represents everything I love about Hollywood special effects. He was a wizard.

This is just so unexpected. He didn't seem that old. I hoped he'd be around for a lot longer. This is completely uncool.

It seems like all the coolest people have been dying off recently. Roy Scheider, Charlton Heston, and Stan Winston. Who's next? Clint Eastwood? Lance Henriksen? Ray Harryhausen?! People need to stop dying already. All these childhood heroes dropping off like flies.

Holy crap!! This is such terrible news. The film industry has lost one of it's true legends. He created some of the most iconic movie monsters and make-up techniques. He will be missed.

R.I.P. Stan.
