I'm looking forward to Matt Fraction and Cory Walker's arc on The Punisher War Journal. Here's just a hint of why.

While, as you know, I greatly admire Fraction's LAST OF THE INDEPENDENTS and the art looks nice, I'll be giving this a pass.
I get that this is the "superhero" Punisher, but when I read the first issue of this incarnation of WAR JOURNAL during the Civil War, I was appalled at how out of character Fraction's Frank Castle was.
Chris, I haven't read an issue of the Punisher since, uh, I don't know when! I'm hoping that Fraction and Walker will bring me the Frank Castle that I remember best.
Truly, the definitive Punisher for me was done by Grant, Zeck and Beatty. While I also enjoyed JRJR's version, even it strayed a bit... and don't get me started about when the Punisher had a sidekick [Microchip], worked as a substitute teacher, etc.
I was mostly thrown by Frank's near-constant pop culture references in his narration.
I seriously doubt that Castle has watched an entertainment TV show since his family was brutally murdered, so it rang false that he'd compare some low-rent super villian inventor to Russell Johnson. Not "that professor guy from Gilligan's Island," but the actor's actual name.
Clever reference on Fraction's part, but wholly out of character for the single-minded, driven Frank Castle.
IMO.
You know Chris, since Gilligan's Island was on 40 years ago, Castle would be referencing it from his childhood. Yeah, you're right... that's a stretch.
